Safety Coin Design Options
When it comes to making custom challenge coins, one of the first things to consider is the type of metal plating you need. Depending on the type of safety coin program you have in mind, you might want to consider ordering the same design in multiple plating options.
For example, some of our customers like to order their safety coins in gold, silver and copper plating so that they can use them in a tiered reward system. Not all safety coin programs work this way, but we like to make sure our customers know that they can order their design in a few different metal plating styles if they want to.
A majority of safety coins include company emblems and logos to some degree, so the next important design element to consider is color. We use Pantone colors for all of our corporate challenge coin design, making it easy for our production team to match a company’s brand artwork.
Make sure to send us the Pantone colors your company uses for all of its promotional materials, and we’ll use those Pantone colors for the physical coins.
A few other important things to keep in mind when it comes to safety coin designs are size and shape. The average size of challenge coins is about 1.75”, but it’s not uncommon to see company coins that are as large as 2.5” to 3”. If you’re looking to take things up a notch, we can also create a custom shaped coin or a functional bottle opener coin.
Custom bottle openers are unique and useful, making them a meaningful gift that you can use in your safety coin program. Functional bottle opener coins need to be at least 2.5” in size. This is the smallest size we recommend for bottle openers because the bottle opener hook will not be able to function properly if the coins are too small.

We’ll prepare a free pricing quote for you and free proof of artwork. All orders come with free overnight shipping, and our turnaround time is 14 days or fewer. Need coins at more than one office or site? We can usually arrange delivery to a second business location for an additional shipping charge — talk to your sales rep about the details. For plants or teams spread across many locations, most customers have us ship everything to one address with our free overnight shipping and redistribute from there; we don’t offer shipping to individual recipients’ addresses.

For instance, a non-colored antique design with no upgrade features, could take us only 3 weeks to produce! If you have a special design, the process will take a few days longer.
