HQ Landcom supports NATO at all times. During peace, Landcom provides advice and land expertise to the countries in the alliance as well as training and maintaining the readiness of troops in the event that they’re needed. During a conflict, HQ Landcom provides mission command over NATO’s joint land forces.
A new element of Landcom are the NATO Force Integration Units (NFIUs). Established in 2015, the NFIUs help facilitate the rapid deployment of Allied forces to the Eastern part of the Alliance, support collective defense planning and assist in coordinating training and exercises. Six NFIUs are being established in the following locations:
- Sofia, Bulgaria
- Tallinn, Estonia
- Riga, Latvia
- Vilnius, Lithuania
- Bydgoszcz, Poland,
- Bucharest, Romania
