Custom Ohio Challenge Coins

Ohio came into the U.S. as the 17th State of the U.S. in 1803. Amusingly enough, however, the State had to be retroactively admitted into the Union in 1953, 150 years after it’s official date of statehood, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The Congress of 1803-1805 had apparently never actually taken the formal legislative steps to legally allow admission of Ohio as an official State after initially accepting Ohio’s initial petition for statehood. By 1953, Ohio was already deeply ingrained into American culture as a battlefield during the War of 1812, the birthplace of Professional American Football, and the burgeoning home of Rock and Roll music.

Many custom challenge coins by Ohio clients often celebrate not only the State’s rich cultural history and influence but also the natural beauty of Ohio’s rivers, plains, and shores. At Signature Coins, we design high-quality challenge coins honoring the State of Ohio and highlighting both the natural and cultural landmarks of Ohio. Challenge coin designs from Ohio often incorporate views of the State’s namesake, the Ohio River, or a classic football helmet in recognition of the State’s role as the birthplace of the NFL.

Our challenge coins can be found in the pockets and collections of clients serving in the military, law enforcement, government agencies, and Fortune 500 companies. Ohio Military Challenge Coins

As early as World War I, challenge coins have been used in the military to build camaraderie and recognize the dedication of our nation’s servicemembers. Military challenge coins found in Ohio often incorporate major unit symbols, organization insignias, or military mascots into their design. Ohio-specific coins tend to pay respects to the culture of Ohio by including a vision of the State’s geography, designing a coin into a shape of a football helmet, or simply including the State’s flag, the Ohio Burgee.

Military organizations and bases located in the State of Ohio include:

  • Toledo Air National Guard Base
